Fall Update
November 20, 2016 09:19AM
I shared this in Dan's thread below, but thought I'd start my own thread, too. Here's the current state of my beard. Just over 12 inches from the lower lip as it hangs naturally. Quite a bit longer if I stretch out the waves. I trimmed a few inches of stragglers off back in May.

I'm also trying to grow out the mustache one more time. I usually don't have much success with that, but we'll see what happens this time around.

Thanks, Dan!

Stunning! Majestic!

What I really like about it, besides the length, is the shape. I like
the sort of straight-line bottom to it.

Man, you've got some good beard genes. My terminal beard
length was not at all what I was envisioning for myself. I'm
only asking for maybe four more inches, that's all -- but nope,
I'm afraid that's not in the cards.

Thanks, Gym! I knew you'd like the way it is shaping up. I really didn't do anything to get that shape - it is growing faster on the outer edges than it is in the middle, so it kind of squared itself off on it's own. If it grows much longer I think it is going to become more of a fork.

I'm not sure how close to terminal I am at this point. I thought it had stopped growing, but then it had a growth spurt this fall. We'll see what the future holds.

By the way, I miss running into you at the grocery store. We've been shopping at the new store on Oakland since that opened.

Ah ha, so that's why I haven't seen you two. I have not been
to that new store in Shorewood yet.

I've heard about latent growth spurts for beards, so my
fingers are crossed that I can squeeze out some
additional length. Only time will tell. Like I said, I
really don't want something down to my navel. I did,
however, have an ideal length in my mind that I wanted
to hit, which would only require approximately four
more inches. My beard genes, though, are just not
havin' it.

With the shape you've got, combined with the length,
I foresee some successful beard contests in your
future. :-)

Thanks, Gym...

Funny you should mention beard contests. There were a bunch of them around Wisconsin last month, and I managed to enter one at The Bay restaurant over in Whitefish Bay. I was very pleased to come in second in my category - full beards over 12 inches. The man who took first place was new to competing and has a truly world class beard. He also went on to win best in show.

Had I known about the contest at The Bay, I would have
definitely checked it out. I heard nothing about it,
though. Rats!

Some great-looking beards, including yours. I
recognized a few faces in there, too. A few of
those judges had some fine, fine beards, as well.

I'm sorry, I should have sent you an e-mail about it - I just assumed you would know about this one. This was the fourth annual "Whisker Celebration" at the Bay restaurant in Whitefish Bay. The place is owned by James McMahon, who is one of the Remmington Beard Bosses. Last year I was a judge for the event, and the year before I won best in show. James puts together a great event. Not as many participants as the contest at the Uptowner, but as you saw in the pictures, some great quality facial hair.
