Comparing the last three Julys
July 18, 2016 07:24AM
Two years ago I put on this t-shirt and went off to my first big competition, the Midwest Beard and Mustache Wearers Championship in Madison, Wisconsin. I put the shirt on again last year and had another picture taken before going to the same comp. This year there is no competition, but I put on the shirt and had a picture taken anyway.

Unfortunately, the black and white shirt doesn't show off my beard at its best. You can really see how thin it is getting toward the bottom. I'd have had a bit more growth between last year and this, too, except I trimmed an inch or two of stragglers off back in May.

Anyway, it is what it is...

Trimming of selected stragglers can keep it looking fuller overall. I think it looks great and will continue to do so. And you've got the longer stache now, too which adds to the bulk.

Cheers!

Tom, Mossy... thank you both!

I agree that trimming the stragglers was a good thing. The black and white shirt doesn't show my beard at it's best - I think it really does look better on other colors.

I'm hoping for continued growth, but it seems to be growing much more slowly the longer it gets. Perhaps it is just relative. I really would love to let it grow to waist length! We'll see...

Good to see old friends still around. Good progress.

Hello, TwoBear.

That was a really cool idea of yours -- i.e., putting on the same shirt,
and standing in the same spot. You get the full effect of the change
in length of your beard. And let me say, I, personally, like the longer
mustache.

That's funny you should mention how you think your beard looks
better against different colors. I feel the same way about mine, as
well. Now that mine is getting so gray, I've found that a darker-colored
shirt makes it look thicker.

And I agree with TomW. I'm all for trimming the stragglers, too.

Thanks, Gym!

I find that my beard looks best on my ash gray tee shirt. The gray color brings out the remaining red in my beard. Medium dark colors seem to show it off best. Anything with a print, text, or picture really makes it look thin.
